If anybody else should be fortunate enough to see this reply, you will see that I am a man of ideas.

While I have got hold of you, S'dad : can you tell me, is there any specially quick way to get the accents, tildes, inversions what have you when trying to post in Spanish? My current method - when I can bring myself to overcome my laziness - is to write on Word (actually a clone of Word), which is no problem as I have organised macros to simplify the special character business - well almost no problem - the problem is that it takes a bit of time to open Word when writing a comment of one or two words... Maybe you could send me a PM, so we can stop walking all over Hywel's thread...

Hi,Gurth, To begin with this is not strictly Hywel's thread, he did start it as his introductory post, as I asked you to do, but that's not important.

As to your question about using accents & the tilde there is a simpler way than you are doing at present. To begin with, what OS are you using? If you are using either Windows XP or Vista then the following will work. I don't know if it will work with W7 but it probably will. As for Apple computers I haven't the slightest idea never having used one. The same would be true of Linux.

The quickest way is to right click on the task bar at the foot of your screen (unless it's positioned elsewhere!), in the menu that pops up choose Toolbars, then Language bar. When it opens choose add language, then scroll through the list & choose Spanish (Tradition sort) click on add & then choose Keyboard shortcut. By default its set to change input languages using the Shift & Left Alt keys. If you are happy with that combination you need only click on accept or OK & the next time you boot up your computer the changes will take effect. You can also chose to have the Language Toolbar install itself in the taskbar & swap between input languages by clicking on the toolbar.

Hope that works for you.

Also what browser are you using? In FireFox, which I use most of the time, you can download a Spanish dictionary to install as a spell checker (there are dictionaries in a great many languages available). That will also help to correct some words that you may misspell but it doesn't recognise words that are spelt the same but have different meanings whether they carry or not an accent. For example: ésta (This) or está (is).

As for avatars you don't necessarily have to upload a photo of yourself as Piersdad & I have both done. Hywel hasn't uploaded one of himself. You can choose not to have an avatar or to use one of the default ones.
